
MPT Extends CSR Support to Flood-Affected Communities, Including Donations, Volunteer Efforts, and Connectivity Services
(Yangon, 23rd September 2024) – In response to the devastating floods impacting communities across in Shan State (East, South, and North), Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay Region, Magway Region, Mon State, Kayin State and Bago Region (East), MPT has launched an inclusive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to support affected communities and aid disaster relief efforts. The initiative, which began last week, includes donations of essential food supplies, clothing, cash, and employee volunteering. In addition to material support, MPT is supported the connectivity in flood-hit areas, helping both communities and emergency response teams stay connected during this critical time.
The CSR initiative focuses on immediate relief to the flood-affected populations, with employees of MPT stepping in to volunteer their time and resources. Employees have been actively involved in the distribution of food, clothing, and other essential supplies to shelters and homes in the flood-hit areas.
Additionally, MPT has donated cash directly to local disaster relief shelters and organizations assisting the flood-affected populations. To date, MPT has distributed vital resources such as clean water, non-perishable food, blankets, and clothes to affected communities in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Shan (East), Shan (South), ensuring families receive the essentials to survive and recover.
Providing Communication Services to Disaster Management Centre (DMC)
As part of the relief initiatives, MPT has also provided critical communication services to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) to facilitate faster and more efficient coordination of emergency operations. This support includes the provision of 12 Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) connections, 12 unlimited SIM cards, and one Wi-Fi line with 100 Mbps for the DMC to use in their ongoing efforts. These services ensure that emergency personnel have uninterrupted internet access and communication tools necessary for effective disaster management.
Providing Communication Services to affected customers
Beyond supporting communication by the relief organization, MPT is also directly aiding flood-affected communities by offering free mobile services. MPT is offering 1,400 on -net minutes of free calls and 1,400 free SMS messages from Sep 13 to Sep 26 (Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Magway, Shan (East, South and North) and 900 on net free minutes of free call and 900 free SMS messages from Sep 18 to Sept 26 (Bago (East) and Kayin) to affected people in 85 townships inside Nay Pyi Taw Council, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Kayin and Shan (East, South and North) enabling them to stay connected with loved ones and access emergency services, ensuring residents can maintain contact while they work to rebuild their lives. Speaking on the MPT’s efforts, the Deputy Chief Operating Officer of MPT-KSGM Joint Operations, Mr. Naoki Shimane, said, “Our hearts go out to those affected by the recent floods. we are providing essential support to the affected areas and communities including free on-net calls and SMS to help our customers stay connected. At MPT, we understand that during times of disaster, communication is a lifeline. That’s why we are doing everything we can to support both the community and the disaster response teams reinforcing our commitment of “အတူလက်တွဲအမြဲရှိမည် MPT” (English translation: MPT – Holding Hands Together With Myanmar People).”

In addition to physical resources and connectivity, MPT employees have taken part in relief operations, worked with relief agencies to distribute food, cloth, medicine and other supplies to affected families in Bago Region (East), Mon, Kayin and Shan (East and South) and helped the local community relief from this devastated flood where possible.
