MPT’s CSR Initiatives in FY 2023 Focused on the Development of Myanmar Youth Reinforcing the Commitment of “Together With Myanmar People”

(Yangon, 1st April 2024) _ MPT has always dedicated its CSR efforts primarily to Education, Healthcare, and Business Incubation initiatives within the country. Throughout the fiscal year 2023, MPT made significant contributions across diverse sectors, including organizing blood donation drives, nationwide donation activities, tree planting activities, cyclone Mocha rehabilitation efforts and providing support to communities affected by natural disaster in the Bago (East) region.

In the fiscal year 2023, MPT focused on its CSR E-Learning program under its Education initiative, aiming to expand learning opportunities for underprivileged youths nationwide. Additionally, Healthcare videos were shared on the LoTaYa Portal via MPT4U App, with free data, giving people access to important health information. As a true local telecom operator, MPT not only prioritizes community development but also cherish Myanmar’s rich traditions and culture, actively celebrating and preserving them. At the same time, MPT try to enhance the life of consumers in Myanmar dedicating to its new values “Enrich People’s Daily Lives” by educating and empowering people in Myanmar.

In FY-22, our focus was on improving the health and livelihoods of individuals, while FY-23 saw a dedication to youth development through our CSR E-Learning program and Health Education Program. As we move into FY-24, our commitment to youth development remains steadfast, acknowledging its crucial role in our nation’s development. MPT is committed in supporting much-needed areas and benefiting local communities, in line with its dedication to standing together with the people of Myanmar. Hence, MPT has used total of over 26 billion MMK to date in support of the need of the community and people of Myanmar. Each of MPT’s initiatives to support the people of Myanmar are as below.

CSR E-Learning Program

MPT’s CSR E-Learning program was initially launched on 31st May 2023 with an intention to empower youths with essential skills and knowledge. For the benefits of learners, MPT has collaborated with four renowned partners in education and vocational sector- KMD Institute for Information Technology, Center for Vocational Training Ltd Gty for vocational training and for the language part- Soe San Japanese Language Training for basic Japanese Language and lately Than Toe Aung Mobile Phone Service & Training will offer Mobile Software Repair Training for youths who will be the future of the country.

Access Free Health Education Videos on the LoTaYa Portal via MPT4U App

MPT firmly believes that investing in education and healthcare is essential for the well-being and development of the country’s nationals and together with its renown partners of Ar Yu International Hospital and Pun Hlaing Hospital, MPT has presented health education videos on its own channels, Lotaya Platform and partners’ social media platforms starting from September 2023 and on partners’ channels as well. Atotal of 13 episodes regarding these 5 topics namely Dengue Fever, Breast Cancer Awareness, Diabetes, Betel Chewing and its health effects, and Hepatitis.

Collective Blood Donation Activity Across Myanmar

Blood Donation is one of MPT’s primary CSR activities and during the fiscal year 2023, MPT has organized 11th, 12th and 13th time blood donation in June, October 2023 and February 2024 consecutively. During these 3 activities, MPT has collected about 1,400 blood bags and MPT staff and volunteers from Yangon and other States and Regions have participated in this process. MPT has initiated blood donation activity since 2016 and to date more than 8,500 individuals, including MPT and members of the local community, have donated over 8,000 blood bags to meet the urgent blood transfusion needs of patients in hospitals throughout Myanmar.

Nationwide Thadingyut Paid Homage Donation, Thazaungdaing Lighting Festival and Digital Photo Contest

From October 23rd to 26th 2023, MPT has initiated Nationwide donation to 24 Home for the aged and other much needed places in 18 locations to commemorate Thadingyut Festival starting. MPT has donated MMK 30 million worth of essential food items, donating meals for the day and cash. Additionally, 10 oxygen concentrators were donated to Yangon Children Hospital and Jivitadana Sangha Hospital during the period.

During the Tazaungdaing Festival in November, the people of Myanmar visit pagodas to offer candles and oil lamps at renowned pagodas. To preserve the essence of this festival, MPT organized candle lighting ceremonies at these three prominent pagodas such as the Botataung Pagoda, Thiri Mingala Kabar Aye Pagoda, and Sule Pagoda in Yangon, inviting the public to participate and engage in acts of good deed alongside MPT. Additionally, MPT conducted a photo contest where participants were encouraged to capture the spirit of the Tazaungdaing Lighting Festival. Winners were selected randomly and awarded prizes including realme mobile handsets, realme gift sets, Mi Smart Watches, Wireless Earbuds, MPT mobile phone bill coverage, and MPT Club Points.

Nationwide Tree Planting Activity Under its “MPT Green Movement” Initiative

In July 2023, as a part of the MPT’s CSR activities, “MPT Green Movement” aims to promote greener environment and improve the quality of life for the communities across the country while reducing the greenhouse gases by planting trees necessary for the reduction of carbon footprint. This initiative started in 2017 and a total of over 17,000 trees have been planted through the effort of MPT staff and outside volunteers who have joined and contributed their time and efforts to plant saplings at the selected locations.

Enhancing Disaster Response and Rehabilitation

Before and after Cyclone Mocha hit Rakhine state, MPT took measures to keep its customers connected. MPT proactively set up ten satellite terminals and five cells on wheels before the cyclone hit, and immediately replaced damaged towers with three temporary trailer towers for continuous connectivity. Moreover, MPT donated MMK 100 million to the Natural Disaster Management fund, for overall recovery and rebuilding while providing Fiber & internet services to major hospitals, school and university which is vital for necessary communication. MPT played a significant role in enabling communication, access to critical information, and support services for those impacted by the disaster.

As part of MPT’s dedication to “Keeping Myanmar Connected,” when Bago (East) was affected by natural disaster in October 2023, MPT offers some relief and comfort to those affected by providing essential support (emergency food packages) and connectivity assistance 2GB data bonus and Free On-Net 100Mins.
