MPT is pleased to announce the opening of 40 MPT telecenters throughout the country to help fill the digital literacy gap. The opening of the centres in every state and region in the country will let communities access a wide range of beneficial information and communication services available on the internet.

MPT has so far trained 70 local staff with the technical knowledge needed to operate the MPT telecenters and to instruct the public on computer and tablet usage, together with responsible internet browsing techniques. At least two staff per location will be ready to help users.

“The launch of MPT telecenter initiative will help support citizens around the country achieve access to the world’s knowledge online. As smartphone ownership rapidly grows across the nation, the free Wi-Fi access at MPT stores nationwide will complement the trainings we offer on how to use the internet in a safe and enjoyable manner,” said Mr. Reizo Umeda, Chief Commercial Officer of MPT-KSGM Joint Operations.

“The MPT telecenters are a very important part of our efforts to move Myanmar forwards. We care deeply about improving access to the internet, because we have seen firsthand the huge benefits it brings to communities around the country. Going online is something that all people, both young and old should and can do. The internet lets people stay up-to-date with current affairs and provides them with untold opportunities to access world-class educational information from global experts on things relevant to Myanmar, including agriculture, education, health and business,” he added.

In addition to unlimited free Wi-Fi for use with mobile devices, MPT is also providing laptops and tablets for free use at MPT telecenters around the country. These devices are ready for use by all Myanmar people, with useful apps installed like English language courses, Winn Zin, and health care and entertainment software. Those who visit the MPT telecenters can ask for more information at from staff who can share their knowledge and can give personal guidance as needed. Customers should look for the MPT telecenter logo at MPT-branded stores to find their nearest outlet.

The MPT telecenter will be open to the public 7 days a week. Over the coming years, MPT plans to expand the telecentre project to even more locations around the country.
