MPT Launches Hand Washing Programme in Collaboration with Ministry of Health and Sports to Improve Hygiene Among Children

(Yangon, 12nd July 2018) MPT, Myanmar’s first and leading telecommunications operator, held the first opening ceremony of hand washing facility at No (8), Basic Education Primary School, Ye Pauk Chaung in Miektila Township, Mandalay Region in collaboration with Public Health Department, Ministry of Health and Sports. The campaign is aimed at improving hygiene and promoting good health practices across students from 15 basic education primary schools in Mandalay Region, Mon State and Kayin State.

As a part of the MPT’s “Myanmar In Our Heart” initiative, operator will provide water tanks, group hand washing concrete facilities to selected schools as MPT always put Myanmar In Our Heart for every activities they do whether CSR or PR . The Ministry of Health and Sports supports this campaign by conducting training sessions for students to know good hand washing techniques in order to increase awareness about the importance of basic hygiene routine. This year MPT spent more than 80 million MMK to provide hand washing facilities. Five primary schools in each region have been chosen by the Public Health Department, Ministry of Health and Sports.

MPT recognizes the importance of health knowledge and awareness programmes. Healthcare sector plays a strategic role in the MPT’s CSR vision – “Together for Future Generations”. The operator aims to achieve impact in the public, private and third sectors by focusing its CSR initiatives on healthcare, education and business incubation.

The health of students is of the utmost importance. Children can have a strong and healthy future if they learn more about basic personal hygiene, such as hand washing habit in their younger age”, said Daw Yin Yin Aye, Headmistress of No (8), B.E.H.S Ye Pauk Chaung, Meiktila.
