(Yangon, 16 November 2017) – In commemoration of Myanmar’s National Day, MPT employees in states and regions across the country coordinated to organize a nationwide scale blood donation event, the biggest the operator has organized to-date.

Donation drives are being carried out today in Ayeyarwaddy, Bago, Kachin, Kayin, Kayah, Magwe, Mandalay, Mon, Nay Pyi Taw, Shan, Sagaing, Thanintharyi and Yangon, by four hundred MPT staff at blood centers and hospitals in their respective locations which store valuable blood used for medical purposes.

Blood supplies are a lifeline in an emergency situation and plays a vital role for people who need long-term treatments as it contains the essential components that are used to treat many different illnesses and conditions. It is also vital for treating patients during complex medical and surgical procedures such as anemia, cancer, blood disorders and plays a life-saving role in maternal and perinatal care.

Mr. Yoshiaki Benino, Chief Operating Officer for MPT KSGM Joint Operations said, “Many emergency victims and health patients throughout Myanmar rely on limited blood supplies that are crucial for their treatment. This cause is close to the hearts and our team at MPT felt that organizing a nationwide blood donation drive to help support hospitals and centers around the country to help save lives would be the best way to honor Myanmar’s National Day.”

In February and June during World Blood Donor Day this year, MPT held donation events for its staff and customers which drew in hundreds of contributions at blood centers in Yangon, Mandalay and other regions in an amazing show of support.

“We would like to also urge the public to do their part and make a difference for others, not just today or this week, but all year-round at their nearest blood donation centers,” added Mr. Benino.

In the past, MPT has engaged communities around the country through various health, education, disaster relief and sustainable initiatives which include campaigns for providing clean and hygienic water, tree planting activities for a sustainable environment. Aiming to achieve more positive impact in the next year, MPT has outlined its CSR vision, “Together for Future Generations”. To reach its CSR development targets, MPT will be operating a number of programs in key areas, through collaboration with various institutions operating in these sectors.
