(Yangon, 13th July 2018) MPT, Myanmar’s first and leading communications operator, encouraged public participation in its 5th Nationwide Blood Donation Event which was held on 13th July. For the first time, including MPT participants, more than 1,000 people from public organization and interested individuals joined the donation by registering themselves at MPT branded stores in seventeen cities across the country.

Since 2017, over 1,200 MPT employees volunteered to donate blood at blood donation centers around the country. In excess of 429,800 ml of blood were donated during the past four editions MPT Blood Donation Events to help supply blood during emergency surgeries. Blood transfusion is also crucial in treating patients during complex medical and surgical procedures such as anemia or cancer.

“I am very proud to see strong participation of MPT employees in our CSR programs. This time, we invited all Myanmar citizens to join us in our effort to commemorate Martyr’s Day by national blood donation. Many health patients across the country rely on limited blood supplies that are crucial for their treatment. We would like to express gratitude to all volunteers who decided to support our initiative and show that Myanmar is in the hearts of all of us.” said Mr. Yoshiaki Benino, Chief Operating Officer of MPT-KSGM Joint Operations.

“We are glad that donation blood has become increasingly common in Yangon. We hope that with MPT’s Nationwide Blood Donation event the public awareness will be spread across the country. Although it is still much lower than in developed countries. I am deeply thankful to MPT for their long-term support to expand and develop the Myanmar Healthcare system”, said Deputy Director General of National Blood Center, Dr. Thida Aung.

For this time, 1,278 volunteers supported our nationwide event which is really an amazing numbers and also help reducing the blood requirements for the emergency situations. Myanmar’s first and leading telecommunications operator, runs a wide range of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities across local communities. Sustainable water provision, tree planting or natural disaster relief projects are just the latest examples.
