MPT Makes Nationwide Grand Donation in Observance and Celebration of Thingyan New Year Festival
(Yangon, 5 April, 2017) – To show its solidarity with the people of Myanmar turning a page into the New Year, MPT is making a nationwide series of donations to charitable causes to mark the festive Thingyan period.
The organisation has enlisted the participation of its workforce, from its top management down to the regional MPT office teams, to make more than 30 donations at locations all over the country. From a total of 200 million Kyats, a wide variety of recipients – including schools, monastic organisations, orphanages, hospitals and homes for the aged – will receive funding.
Today, Mr Toshitake Amamiya, CEO MPT-KSGM Joint Operations, alongside U Naing Ko Ko, DYCOO, visited Mingalar Monastery near Twante, Yangon Region, to ceremonially present a donation to the orphanage there.
In addition to this event and other donations, traditional Thingyan rites organised by MPT have taken place at various locations this week. It is an important time to reflect and look forward, for celebrating and embracing Myanmar culture. MPT’s regional teams will visit many sites not only to make a donation, but also to conduct Thingyan activities in a manner that is customary.
MPT’s unique LoTaYa Helping Hands donation platform supports 10 charities to which people can send money from their phone credit balance via the LoTaYa portal. Each of these organisations will also receive a funding boost over Thingyan.
Mr Toshitake Amamiya said: “At this time of celebration, MPT is committed to its obligation as a proud Myanmar operator to honour the Thingyan New Year through donation and selfless acts. This donation comes from MPT and on behalf of our customers, to whom we are extremely grateful and wish to share the merit. Thank you all, and have an auspicious, safe and happy New Year.”
The series of donations are part of MPT’s range of CSR activities. In addition to on-going education and communication related initiatives, MPT recently opened a number of tube wells across the country to improve access to water in rural areas in the long term as part of the Clean and Sustainable Water Program. There have also been water deliveries to places that are in need of immediate relief from the dry, hot weather.
The Thingyan donation activities have taken place over a number of days this week. MPT wishes the whole of Myanmar a happy and prestigious New Year, and each person a restful, reflective but also fun Thingyan holiday.
